Artist's Description

I've always loved tall ships but, until a few years ago, I'd never seen more than the occasional schooner under sail. In 2007, Linda and I took a day trip to Beavertail, at the southern tip of Conanticut Island in Narragansett Bay to see the July 1st Parade of Tall Ships. The sky was mostly cloudy (I took some liberties with the sky in my painting), but shafts of sunlight sporadically punctured the cloud cover, illuminating the sails of a ship and making them glow like pearls on velvet.

Completed in August, 2007. The price of the original includes matting, glazing and framing. Please contact me to discuss delivery arrangements if you're interested in purchasing this painting.

I paint only in watercolor, in a style that lies somewhere between impressionistic and photo-realistic. I love the transparency and immediacy of watercolors and celebrate the happy accidents of the medium, as well as its challenges. After many years of drawing only as a preliminary step to the main event - a painting - I've recently begun drawing as an end in itself again. Please browse my catalog of drawings and paintings. If you have a comment or question, please contact me. I...
