Artist's Description
Atlantic puffins are a favorite subject of mine. This painting is based on one of the many photos I took during a visit to Machias Seal Island in the Gulf of Maine. Puffins on the margins of their territory, including those in the Gulf of Maine, are struggling to survive as their main prey fish are being supplanted by warmer water species. The adults can survive on them, but many chicks are starving because they can't swallow the fish their parents are returning to them.
