Description
Burrowing owls are fairly common in Florida, excavating nesting burrows in pastures and vacant lots. Cape Coral has become well-known for them - they coexist with subdivision-dwellers in an uneasy truce, occupying burrows just yards away from streets, driveways, and household pets. The city encourages neighborhoods to share space with the feathered interlopers, and tenants and home-owners help to keep the birds safe from ground predators by mowing the grass around their burrows. The owls feed on insects, providing a kind of quid-pro-quo. This owl is perched on a wooden stake provided by a human neighbor for his or her use.
Completed in August, 2011. The price of the original includes matting, glazing and framing. Please contact me to discuss delivery arrangements if you're interested in purchasing this painting.
