Golden-fronted Woodpeckers are found only in Texas, mostly in the interior. Linda and I were visiting Sabine Woods nature preserve, near Port Arthur when this pair showed up. I would have dismissed them as Red-bellied Woodpeckers had not some other birders who were more familiar with Texas birds been there. I developed this painting from a couple of photos from that visit.

My subject matter reflects three life-long passions: nature, history, and architecture. I have lived most of my life in New England. I love painting subjects from my home region, as well as from the travel that my wife, Linda and I enjoy doing together.
