Artist's Description

The Gurnet, as the knob of land at the southern end of Duxbury Beach is called, is actually part of Plymouth. The lighthouse that sits atop the hill is alternately called Plymouth Light and the Gurnet Light. The sky was quite dramatic during our second visit, painting the saltmarsh with shades of gold and russet, punctuated with deep brown shadows. In this painting, I resisted the temptation of focusing on the lighthouse, opting instead to try to capture the play of light and shadow in the sky and on the saltmarsh.

Completed in March, 2012. The price of the original includes matting, glazing and framing. Please contact me to discuss delivery arrangements if you're interested in purchasing this painting.

I paint only in watercolor, in a style that lies somewhere between impressionistic and photo-realistic. I love the transparency and immediacy of watercolors and celebrate the happy accidents of the medium, as well as its challenges. After many years of drawing only as a preliminary step to the main event - a painting - I've recently begun drawing as an end in itself again. Please browse my catalog of drawings and paintings. If you have a comment or question, please contact me. I...
